About children’s dentistry
Children’s dentistry is about more than clean teeth. Early positive visits shape how a child feels about the dentist for life, so we keep first appointments short, friendly, and free of pressure.
We see kids of every age in the same clinic as their parents, so you can often book the whole family together and turn three separate trips into one.
What we do for young patients
- Gentle first exams built around comfort, not speed
- Cleanings and fluoride to strengthen developing enamel
- Dental sealants that protect molars from decay
- Guidance on brushing, diet, and thumb-sucking
- Monitoring of growth, spacing, and incoming adult teeth
When should my child first see a dentist?
The Canadian Dental Association recommends a first visit within six months of the first tooth appearing, or by age one. Early visits are short and mostly about getting comfortable.
Starting young means we catch small issues before they become painful ones, and your child learns the dentist is a normal part of staying healthy.
Nervous child? Tell us when you book. We’ll slow the visit right down, explain each step in kid-friendly language, and never force anything.
Common questions
Only when they’re genuinely useful — for example, to check spacing or spot decay between teeth. Digital X-rays use very low radiation and we take them sparingly for children.
That’s normal and we’re used to it. We work at your child’s pace, and sometimes a first visit is just about sitting in the chair. Progress adds up over a few appointments.
For most children, yes. Sealants coat the chewing surfaces of back teeth where cavities most often start. They’re quick, painless, and can prevent years of problems.
Absolutely. For younger children we usually prefer a parent nearby, and you’re welcome to be there for the whole visit.
